The simple past for regular verbs is pronounced as t, d or ed.
If the infinitive ends in a t or d sound, the ending is pronounced as "ed"

Voiced sounds: Put your finger in your ear and make an s sound.
Now make a z sound.
When you make the z sound you can feel your throat vibrate, but not when you
make the s sound.
The z sound is voiced, the s sound is voiceless.
