A transitive verb requires a direct object. Change each intransitive to transitive using the word shown. Use the same tense!

I sat on the newspaper. (book)I set the book on the newspaper.

I lay on the bed. (clothes)I lay the clothes on the bed.

Jim was sitting on the bench. (equipment)Jim was setting the equipment on the bench.

Joe lay down. (flowers)Joe laid down the flowers.

Karen sat on the floor. (the lamp)Karen set the lamp on the floor.

Sam will sit on the bed. (suitcase)Sam will set the suitcase on the bed.

I was lying on the bed when the lights went out. (clothes)I was laying my clothes on the bed when the lights went out.

Change each transitive to intransitive. Use the same tense!

The cat laid the mouse at my feet.The cat lay at my feet.

I set the book on the chair.I sat on the chair.

I will lay the dress on the couch.I will lie on the couch.
